( unfortunately, this isn't a nice surprise. he sends chopper out first who makes an attempt to, at least, urge sanji away from the door so zoro can come through.
in one hand he has a small sack, over his shoulder is a much larger one. he looks over at sanji with a nasty look on his face and sucks his teeth before he goes to the railing and tosses the small sack over. the other he drops down with a heavy thunk against the deck, crosses his arms, and glares at the other man. )
This food is bad. What do you want to do with it?
( which should be enough indicator of what creepy crawlies were in the other bag. )

( see? this is why he wanted sanji to leave. he was being nice and considerate for once. it's such a rare thing that sanji should've just listened to him. there are many, many things that zoro would and does make fun of sanji for, but this one isn't it. and that's only because zoro can see what it does to him; he remembers the first time and the look on sanji's face. the insult had died halfway through on his tongue and tasted so bitter.
which was weird in and of itself, but.
zoro sighs and lifts his hand to rub at the back of neck. he'd thought about just leaving it in there because he knows how sanji feels about wasted food, but this seems to take precedence because there were so many scuttling around and in a lot of their rice. )
Yeah, don't think about it. Want me to dump it?

Yeah, don't think about it. Want me to dump it?
( it's annoying that he feels some kind of way about sanji to do this for him. there was a time when he wouldn't have even considered it unless he was asked. but, he'd seen one darting under the door and followed it. he wouldn't say it was an infestation or anything, but there was definitely more than one little gross bug scuttling around in there.
he'd even cleaned up; though chopper did help with that part after getting spooked when the last of them made a pathetic last ditch effort to get away from zoro's boot, anyway. )
Yeah, all gone.
( he watches sanji quietly for a moment, still not understanding why he has such a weird and wild fear of them. he's so much bigger? he uses his feet to fight?? what's the problem??? there's a part of him that wants to actually know, but there's that part of him that doesn't care either. just because that's his way; it's just part of sanji so it is what it is and zoro's not going to push over it. if sanji ever wants to say why, he'll hear him out. )
Just sort it and I'll take what you don't wanna keep.

[ another day, another failure. that makes it seventeen days now, for those of you at home who are counting. almost three weeks of nonstop searching, only to turn up empty-handed each time. it probably wouldn't sting so bad, if it didn't feel like the island was taunting them each and every time. ]
I'm back.
[ sanji would be able to tell from her flat tone alone that today's search has once again ended in failure. she certainly doesn't need to pour salt on the injury by explaining any further, but given the very nature of their situation, some debriefing is always necessary.
a half-drawn map is set down on oversized barrel they've come to use for dining, along with a waterlogged compass and oil lamp. ]
There's nothing but jungle north of where we stopped last. What we thought might have been another stranded was just the nest of a jaguar and her cubs.
[ some days, the sense of dread and hopelessness is so overwhelming, it feels like the first day all over again. waking up half-soaked in the sand along the island's shoreline, the last few memories of her life before this flickering in and out of her field of vision as the rest of her surroundings filter into view. broken wood, waterlogged crates. every indication of a shipwreck, only angelika had never been on a ship once in her entire life.
two hours later, she finds sanji on another beach, mulling over the remains of a seaplane — something he'd never been on either. it had taken them three days later before coming across this abandoned shed, what would end up being their would-be shelter for the next few weeks. and it was a week and a half later when the island first reached out to them, letting them know their compatriots were in similar situations, looking for them as well. even now, angelika isn't sure if that was meant to be helpful or not.
passing a hand over her face, she pushes out a steadying sigh. it could be worse, she keeps telling herself. it could always, always be worse. ]

( the last two weeks had been incredibly busy and turbulent for reira. with more people under her, working for her, she had to actually put in effort towards her work. she wasn't passionate about it beyond just keeping the band together and playing her role perfectly. so she had been holed up with ren the last few days, strumming along to his bass, a synth in the room and endless amounts of papers filled with notes. she hadn't really seen or been around sanji for a bit, simply opening the door to grab her meals and offering a slightly apologetic look. she was doing this for him after all- for takumi, ren, naoki, her assistant and of course sanji. she needed to make sure things were perfect or everything would come crumbling down.
today would be another day like this, or at least she figured it would be. the tyrant that ran the show would will it to be. so in her bed, curled up under a blanket and fighting off having to wake up for a few minutes, she mentally prepared herself for the list of things she had to do. it wasn't until her phone began to go off, that she finally opened her eyes and realized she was in bed all alone. she didn't want to admit it, but her focus as of late had been on sanji. she woke up to him, ate her meals with him [usually], and spent her nights being loved by him. with takumi barely around due to his new wife, she found herself slowly forgetting about him- or at least she tried.
tell your body guard to stop blowing up my phone.
you have the day off, do whatever you want.
the bright light illuminated her face as she read those words from takumi. what the hell was he talking about? sanji had been speaking to him?
confused and concerned, she sprang out of bed and into the living room of the rented room she had been in. she walked out wearing nothing but a tank top and her panties, phone in hand. it was there that she looked up and saw an endless amount of decorations and gifts in the room, the smell of food filling her senses up. )
What is this?
( or rather what day was it? oh...
it was her birthday. )

( the deliberate choice in colors doesn't escape her because as carefree as she could be, such a detail moved her. there was something else that was bothering her too, the fact that this was all done by sanji for her when really-
takumi should have been the one to do this. not that she wasn't ecstatic and full of happiness over such kindness from sanji, but deep in her heart she wanted the one she had loved for years now to even consider something like this for her. instead he had sent off a text that screamed annoyance to her, failing to mention what day it was.
with a heavy heart, she turned towards sanji and took in his appearance and the way he didn't hesitate to congratulate her on her special day. the apron, his bright smile, it all just made her run immediately into his arms to hug him. she buried her face into his chest, hiding the tears the threatened to pour down her cheeks. )
You did all this for me?
( the food, the decor, the gifts, it was all for her and she couldn't help but feel tearful about the whole thing. she couldn't even remember when she may have told sanji about her birthday, but clearly he cared about her to find out and organize all of this.
this was far more than someone like her, who would betray him in a heartbeat, could deserve. )
You shouldn't have...just having you by my side would have been enough.
